When I was a kid we spent holidays on the ninety mile beach and recall local farmers surf fishing at night for big Bronze Whaler sharks to supplement their income. They were usually successful.

Swimming and fishing the lakes sounds better. Paddle boards or sea kayaks on the lakes would also keep the kids busy.
