1997 Marstrom Tornado
For sale by John Esquivel for $8,400. This tornado is in good condition and has proven very race worthy. This boat was raced by the Puerto Rico Olympic team in Sydney and took 2nd place in the MOCR a few years later. There have been few modifications. It was weighed and certified for the 2007 MOCR. The hulls were just re-fared and painted in August 2008!! High-friction painting on top and edges. It has a carbon-fiber spinnaker pole and snuffer. Marstrom carbon-fiber/alluminum rudder hardware. Carbon-fiber tiller crossbar and extension with Ronstan connection. All foils are the wooden from Marstrom and are in good condition. It has an aluminum Marstrom mast. All standing rigging (cables) are less than a year old (including the diamond wires). All running rigging is in good race-ready condition. All non-handed sheets are spectra and new. The main-sheet is 9:1 Harken carbo blocks with auto ratchet. Self-tacking jib with Harken track. The spinnaker is rigged with two step launching and one step snuffing. The tack can be pre-launched by the crew from the trapeze or from the tramp. This allows for a fast head launch as you round the mark. The spinnaker can be snuffed from either side or point of sail. The trapeze lines are spectra and in very good condition. The crew's trapezes have Marstrom carbon-fiber adjustable rigging. Custom covers on spinnaker pole/snuffer. Custom cover for tramp (rigged). And custom covers for both hulls (un-rigged). Murray rudder covers for both rudders. Beach wheels with tornado cradles are included.
This boat comes with some very good sails! In total, worth $2600. This boat is registered with sail number USA851. Two great main-sails: one light-air mainsail made by Charlie Ogletree (USA Olympic Tornado sailor), the second main was made by Landenberger, Germany (this sail took 2nd place in european nationals few years ago). Two great jibs: both are from Ullman Sails (California), one of which was raced in Athens. Two spinnakers: one fair performing spinnaker (blue with some loud green) for training or small races and one good regatta spinnaker (solid red). Battens: all battens are foam/fiber. One set of jib battens and three sets of mainsail battens (one for each sail and one spare set). All sails have sail bags. All sails are measured and certified.
This boat is ready and rigged for competition racing right now!!
I have left the country and I must sell this boat. I purchased this boat from the Puerto Rico olympic team after the 2006 MOCR, for $12,000. I have added $1,700 in sails and a small fortune in new rigging. I'm sad to sell but my new career will have me out of the country for several years. I'm offering my boat for a great price. It is rigged and ready for viewing at the US Sailing Center Miami, 2476 S Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33133.
