I don't think it matters whether your class is a member. You still have to be a member as an individual in order to vote. And if your class is a member, I think the class gets a vote, too.
I'm not talking about voting, I'm talking about registering as a Sailor Athlete.
I have an individual (family actually) membership to US Sailing (required to be a Judge). However, in order to be a Sailor Athlete, you either have to compete in the Olympics (or similar international events), a US Sailing/ISAF sanctioned event, or the Nationals/North Americans of a US Sailing member class. Requirement 3.3.2.3 states:
B LEVEL Sailor Athletes shall have: ... Placed in the top one third of... the National or North American Sailing Championship of a US SAILING member class within the last ten years...
I'd qualify except that my class did not renew its US Sailing membership. While I'd like to claim Sailor Athlete status, I'm not inclined to pay $100 (the cost of class membership) for the privilege.
