I use cheap hiking shoes from Target - no more than $25. They have a stiffer sole than tennis shoes and seem to hold up to being soaked in sea water. I typically rinse with fresh water once back home and dry them (and all other gear) in the garage with a dehumidifier.

These hiking shoes look rather similar to some Sperry products - but the pricing is a lot less 'sporty'.

I have the zhik booties and like them for winter racing.
