Hey there,
Racing was at Cleveland last Sunday for Oz day and the Phil Briggs regatta - Phil still sails a Sabre and is 95 or so - just incredible - yes that age is correct. Hope I can achieve that !
Sort of passage style races out around the point and down into the next bay then return home. Looked very promising for the mossie with kite as should have had some good downwind and reaching angles.
Cat division with 5.8, A class and one mossie.
3 races scheduled with first starting in 5 knots which went to 0 - 5 and what could be only described as extremely frustrating sailing. Second and third races wind had come in at 10 - 15 or so.
First race caught up to some of the fleet on the downwind, not sure how as had no wind. Some wind came back in on the work back home and final short reach down to line even had to trap with the kite.
Race control shortened courses right down and next was a 20 min sprint with the A's doing it in 15 and one of the 5.8's coming away with the win.
I did not sail third as spinnaker halyard and clew pulleys were jamming and was very difficult to pull up and down - well almost impossible.
Had to leave straight away to drop a friend off at airport but have just checked results and got a first in the first race on HC or second on yardstick by 4 seconds.
That is so kool given I was contemplating pulling out when there was no wind and we were just drifting around. Just shows that you should always keep going.
Should be sailing again this weekend will keep you posted.
