Rusty,

I don't pretend to be an expert on the 5.8's/6.0's.

I owned my own 6.0 (see avatar) for many years, spin rigged most of the time.

I thought the crossbars, tramp, etc. were the same.

The mast head float, IMHO, insn't really needed, much anyway. Only if you know the top half of the mast leaks, and will fill quickly when capsized.

The performance differences between a Getaway and a 5.8 are enormous. I understand it's for recreational purposes, but then again, if you didn't want a large stable platform, that's fast, you'd get a sunfish.

Do you feel you need the wings that much? (I'm now recalling the first time I was driving, double trapped from the wing, on a TheMightyHobie18 magnum.)

If your mast floats at the top, the mast head float will do little. This is coming from someone that never used one however. I'm sure it would help anyway, some, when righting the boat.

Your 5.8 is larger (tramp space), quicker on all points, and IMHO a better choice than a Getaway. (I always thought the name 'getaway' was fitting)

If you have the 5.8 as you say, like it, there you go.

I had a friend back in Texas, who had modded a P19, with custom made wings. He did an awesome job, reall nice set up.

As far as cruising and wings goes, the H21 sport cruiser would be my choice. 8'6" beam, no telescoping crossbars, and a TheMightyHobie18 mast and sail (I think).
