This whole story is already an illustration of lack of good judgement....The non-stop effort was already thwarted by her having to stop in South Africa for repair, so what was the reason for going out into the southern indian ocean in winter???
IMHO, The proper judgement would have been to wait for the right conditions to complete her solo round the world, considering that she was stopped already and the non-stop effort already was over. One can be stupid and still be lucky enough to get around, but I don't believe that qualifies one as brave....

And yes, the adults around her egging her on should be held accountable!
