Lookin for local knowledge on places to launch a Prindle 16, no catrax, within 2 hr or so drive from Jax Fl. Any info would be appreciated.
The best forgotten and accessible beach is HERE>
http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=s&lat=29.914973&lon=-81.288464&mag=12&zoom=15It is just north of the inlet at St.Augustine. I first sailed my Hobie 14 here in 1971. We took the Wave there last summer, not really believing we could even get near the water.
BIG SURPRISE...the little sandy access road off A1A was still there exactly like it was 38 years ago. You can still drive right on the beach and depending on the wind conditions, sail and surf the waves like Hobie (or Prindle) intended beach cats to do.
There is also a nice outdoor shower by the nearby beach pavillion.
BTW, beach wheels are nice, but we never needed them back then. There are always curious beach walkers who will lend a hand if you need one.
