I'm actually looking for something a little more engaging, like chess and perhaps with an accurate historical motif.

Something in this genre http://www.strategypage.com/militaryforums/410-489.aspxbut without the "cartoon" graphics. I think the U.S. War colleges produce what I'm looking for but I've had no luck on their website.
