I think for Bernoulli's principle to apply, you must be dealing with an incompressible fluid. I seem to remember part of the derivation relied on the continuity equation where the density times the velocity into a closed volume equalled the density times the velocity out of the volume.
Thus some of the fluid is travelling farther in the same time and is generating lower pressure. Where's Wouter or Bill Roberts?
