As advised by a competitor, we expect that spinnaker equiped boats will go the distance as in this race before, This concept goes back to the old Hogsbreath Race which was a two day race designed by Dave Calvert and Rick White, and did not limit participation. In those years, of which I was PRO or race manager for two of the races, the larger Spinnaker boats went the distance as we expect this year. But it is a fun race and we want the Tybee group to test their rigs for the distance and other boats to have an opportunity to taste the fun of distance races. It is an ocean race, and all sailors need to be prepared for what the ocean can do to spoil your day. The race is still run inside the reef, if a sailor chooses, and any boat with an able skipper and crew should be able to navigate close to shore.
