The original planes had a flame out problem when turning one of the pilots job was to feather the nozzles when turning. The other job was to take off get the skin warm then re-fuel. The planes leaked until the skin was warm and expanded. My dive partner for a short time was a pilot and I also worked at Pratt & Whitney for short time they still have the tooling for the engine. I use to have some access to the website for the SR-71 back in the day. The was plane designed in the 60’s built in the 60’s – 70’s makes you wonder what they have today.
