Gill has new USCG type III PFDs that I plan to check out. They are fashioned very close to the CE 50 newton cousins.

Mark is technically correct about the throwable. I would argue that when the rule writers made exceptions for kayaks and canoes regarding throwables, they were not familiar with beach cats.

Also, the practice of storing the classic Orange PFD in the hulls may not be legit either. I know of boaters that have been fined for storing their PFDs in the cabin berths with a PFD bag while underway. The argument was that the PFDs were not ready accessible.
