Let me ask you this question; I have contemplated either going with the carbon mast upgrade on the Inter 18 or waiting a couple seasons and simply buying a 'slightly used', well-tuned Inter 20 (which obviously comes with a carbon mast). I love the Inter 18 but I have a hard time replacing a perfectly good mast (and my wife said no 'bleeping' way). I am teaching my kids to sail and hence, I normally have extra weight on the boat (over 425 lbs). So, maybe sound logic would dictate not getting a carbon mast for the Inter 18, work presently on my technique (which needs a lot of work), and then get the larger Inter 20 that already has a carbon mast. Righting the boat and stepping the mast is a big factor since I hope my kids will sail (race) this boat as they grow up.
