To me, this looks like a wing mast. Think of it as a flattened, really flexible mast or a really narrow sail, stiff enough to standup on it's own. A wing mast bends like an aircraft wing. It is built to bend with the wind speed and loads. I would be surprised if it could stand trap loads. If it could, trapping out would put more curve in the mast and try to bend the tip windward. It would be like easing your outhaul and sheeting in. Probably not the best idea.
