Hydrofoils and wing sails used by the AC use custom 2-D foil sections developed by T. Speers and others for this application. Only thing that's the same is the software (XFOIL and wind tunnels for section design, FLUENT and OpenFoam, most likely for 3-D analysis, in conjunction with VPP packages by North and others). Your analogy is like saying a Boeing 777 uses the same ABS brake system found in my Toyota Corolla.
