Doc and I sailed a regatta in which catamarans(about eight) and International 14's (ten or so) shared a start in conditions that Bethwaite would identify as optimally skiff favoring (flat water - windy...). Without getting too verbose the I-14's with their T-foil rudders ,optimized kits (25-30k buck boats) and really good sailors (former world champ crew , olympic 49er crew, couple PCC and national champs...), sailed away from the fleet of catamarans except for our F16s.I noticed the F16 was faster on all points of sail (we lost ground on tacks and tactics...) except the long reaches where the skiffs would foot in gusts and just accelerate away...
