I find myself wondering lately, is this a sailing forum or a current events forum?

I hesitate to even bring this up, becuase as a video and television professional, I'm a strong believer in the "change the channel" school of thought. When you don't like the program, you change the channel. If you don't like the way the salesman treated you, you don't complain to the manager, you vote with your feet, and do business elsehwere.

The thing is, that I like many people, have been a bit on the depressed side lately as a result of the terrorist attacks. Depressed about all the people that died, depressed about the uncertainty that it brings to daily life now and in the future, and depressed about how it has directly impacted my daily life and livelyhood.

My point is, that this forum is one of my forms of escape. It was a form of escape before September 11, and is even more so now. The fact is, however, that I can not escape it even here. I see posts about the taliban, posts about the news media, posts about the Christian perspective, etc., and all I want to do is read about sailing.

But, like I said, I hesitate to even bring it up. I'll try not to read those posts, but I just wanted to wonder out loud, could this web site benefit from a current events forum? I really don't know, and the last thing I want to do is squelch those who enjoy using this forum to sound off about whatever happens to be on their mind.

On the topic of sailing, I just stripped my boat of all its vital organs today. It's just two hulls, a tramp, and a mast, completely ready to be put into hibernation for the winter. The next time I sail it will be in the spring of 2002!
