It will work anywhere there is delamination of the fiberglass skins to the core.

(Short answer - yes, it will work on the sides. You probably would want to disassemble the boat and set the hull up on saw horses so that the side is horizontal.)

The only other fix I know (and you may be headed there anyway, depending on where the soft spot is) is to replace the hull.
