Well, one way to look at it is to give up the Prindle and join the half-boats or buy a Hobie.
The other way is to become the catalyst for change - drum up other catsailors that are interested in open racing. Organize a regular race, maybe once a week on a weeknight. If your club itself isn't interested, be the one that starts a new movement in your club. Hunt down people within and outside your club that might be looking for the same thing you are. In essence, if it doesn't exist, try creating it! In the same 2 years that you are currently planning to become disillusioned, bored, etc. enough to quit cats you could be excited by the task of building up something new, and actually have something to show for it at the end of the 2 years.
In other words, don't ask "what can the cat-sailing scene do for me" - ask "what I can do for the cat-sailing scene"? You might be surprised what you end up with!
Just a thought.
