Hmm... the comptip is not really a new design... Some people might not see it as an improvement. It will add weight to your mast in the wrong spot (up top) it ages - especially in the TX sun it modifies the bending curve of the mast abruptly. You might need one if you race - on the other hand if you buy a competitive boat (less than 10 years old) - it will come with a comptip. If you get something older and start racing the boat probably no one cares if you have a comptip.
