Hi all,

As you know the Bimare Javelin 2 has been chosen as the boat for the 2003 Worrell 1000. I beleive that this boat will prove to be a great boat for this event.

I would like to take a moment to clarify a couple of things. First, the proper name of the boat is a Bimare Javelin 2 (some call it a Javelin B-either is fine). The boat meets the F-18HT rule, as a Tiger or Nacra F-18 fits the F-18 rule.

Next and most importantly, I have been misquoted (unintentionally, I'm sure) regarding my thoughts on the optimum crew weight for the Jav 2. The optimum crew weight is yet to be determined, however I have a ballpark guess, based on observation to date. The boat, like its A-Cat brother, appears to have a very wide weight tolerance, due to its type of rig and open sail rule. You can have your sails tailored to your crew weight. This is a luxury that you do not have with manufacture one-designs.

I have observed that the boat "powers up" slightly after the I-20. That is that the hull seems to fly in just a little more wind than the I-20. From this and from sailing the boat, my best GUESS would place the optimum crew weight at between 315-345lbs. It is important to rememember that this is my opinion to date. Obviously, no boat can be everything ato all sailors. The larger crews, say the 380-400+ lbs crews will have some disadvantage on this boat. It is a smaller boat, after all.

Again, I feel certain that the Javelin 2 will be a great boat for this event and for cat racing in general.
