Carl,
I am sorry if I accidently struck a wrong note with you. I have heard good things about you and was surprised by your comments. I simply answer Mark's question to the best of my knowledge.
I did not say that the Jav 2 was faster than anyparticular type or brand of boat! I simply stated that that I-20, on that day, in those conditions, was no match for W.F. and myself on the Jav 2. I went out of my way to state that there were no other boats around to compare with on the other two days.
You are very hypocritical in stating that the boat will pitchpole violently and break parts, without ANY experience on the boat. I have sailed it for about 8 hrs, how many hours have you logged on it? As for how it does in the ocean, I can only say that in 20 kts and 2-3ft chop on top of 5 ft swells it was easy to handle and showed NO tendency to pitchpole. I can not say this for the I-20 that pitchpoled twice last Sunday in similar conditions, while I watched from my fishing boat. I know that these conditions are tame compared to those often found in the W-1000. Only time will tell for sure if the boat handles the W-1000 conditions well. From the photos and accounts that I have heard the I-20 had its share of capsizes, pitchpoles and breakages over the past three years, did they not?
Peace and fair sailing.
