While admiring a molded wood Tornado at the Stature race, one of the racers said that sailing a 10' wide cat is such a great feel. It handles so much better than our 8.5' wide cats. Obviously the 8.5' beam is for trailerability rather than sailability.

So here's a question for all you engineers out there, how could you make a 10' wide, easily trailerable cat like, say a Nacra 20? If you used sliding beams, you would only need to slide 9" on each side; that doesn't seem so much to accomplish, yet no one has done it. It seems like technology should be able to solve this issue.
