Orient Point is the end of the North Fork. The end of the south fork is Montauk. I have verbal permission so far to hold four 2-day races at this state park next summer. We'll be able to leave our boats on the beach overnight with masts up. The park closes at dusk, has a locked gate and the park manager lives in the park. In addition the park has hot showers, a concession stand, BBQ grills and playgrounds if you bring the kids. We're planning on one weekend a month from june thru september. We want to schedule the races so that there are no conflicts with popular races like the Statue of Liberty, Shelter Island etc. This venue will hopefully attract sailors from New England since the entrance for the park is right next to where the ferry from New London docks. Some of the guys from the connecticut shore could sail over. For sleeping arrangements there are B&B's and a KOA campground nearby. We're going to keep the entrance fees low since many of the sailors will incur some expenses to get to the race site. There are many racing options besides around the cans. We could do 50 miles of distance races each day using a variety of round-trip routes. You'll see what I mean if you consult a chart of Gardiners Bay, Little Peconic Bay and Great Peconic Bay. Greg
