Sailing upwind in HEAVY chop and heard a "snapping" sound. At first everthing appeared ok, but then I noticed the hull flexing at the rear beam. Immediatly stopped the boat, and peared under the rear beam. I noticed a large crack in the hull right under the rear beam. Dropped out of the race and sailed gingerly back to the beach. Upon dismanteling the boat, found what is shown in the picture.
Plans for the repair.....Add an inspection port forward of the new beam to lay up more glass (or carbon) on the inside of the hull. Have a friend who owns a machine shop make another aluminum plate and drill additional holes through the existing plate through the new plate and bolt them together, and then reglass the entire area that pulled out. Should be as good, if not better than new by the time I'm finished.
I'll try to take photos as the repair progresses and post when the job is done.
