I think the main thing is the cost to the manufacturers initially. Hope they pass it on...doubt it though. But lets think about this if the jib does not have to furl around the forstay then you could change the shape and put full battens in it. Full battens will save the jib. There are plenty of people that do not furl the jib for fear of messing it up somehow. Sail shape may change a bit as well, could be a bit fuller in front and have a nice exit near the main. Taking out the furler will also allow exsisting jibs to be hung lower making righting moment slightly better. These are just some of my ramblings as I am thinking about any advantages. I did not mention weight as you can imagine it weighs someing at the front of the boat where we do not want it.
