I have followed many of the rightning threads here on the board. This season I have capsized twice, once a couple of weeks ago and it was no trouble tilting it around with a crew of three.

Yesterday I tried something I have never seen or heard of before, in twenty years of sailing.

My crew and I sailing in the North Sea went out in some pretty heavy wind and noticed a black front moving in from the north. Horns and fangs on it and all.

Ofcourse we headed towards the system, we got surprised by a very hard and strong gust of wind that threw the boat over like it was made of paper. Main was completly eased out and crew still standing on the wings we capsized on rig and jib in a 1 or two sec. I would estimate the windspeed to about 20 meter pr second for a very sort period and about 12 - 15 meter per second.

Now for the interessting part.

With in the next 30 - 40 sec the boat turned around and placed it self with mast in the wind. The gust was so strong that it "capsized" the boat back to "right" mode imidiatly. We never got to rig my pole or use line to right it, just had to follow the boat around to make sure it didnt tilt again.

Actually the boat would have rightned itself even without anyone on board. Probably just not stayed up right.

Crazy for a 270 kg boat to do this : )
