Hello,
I am new to cat sailing. Bought a Supercat 18 last year and only sailed her her a couple of times. FAST! I've been looking for someone with an owners manual and perhaps other info about this boat. No luck at Aquarius with this-
Thanks

It could also be a 17', does the boat have dagger boards?

The registration shows 18' guess I never measured it. Mast is 34' though, mylar main sail, no jib (told it was set up for 1 man racing?). Dagger boards, trailex expandable trailer (boat is 12' wide when set up). Matt at Aquarius didn't question the length when checking for an owners manual, just that it was a pretty simple set up.

It is an 18 square. Tom knows that because he had one. I have a Supercat 19 that I have cut 1' off the stern en route to a Square. They are supposed to outperform the Nacra. I find the Nacra limited in bow buoyancy off the wind (I weigh 230) so can well believe it. I only have the 29' mast, but should still be fun.

29' mast?? [Re: davidtilley] #103259

Sounds like a fast boat!

Once you go cat you never go back! Nacra 5.2 (Elsies)#1499, running an inter17 spin!

Matt Haberman says there never was a manual for the "18".
Rigging is nearly identical to the SC 19. I will try to post a picture-

I believe the SC18 was heavier than N18Sq (which is heavier than the 330 pound Cat II min.) and had a larger sail (mainsail only). Still a very similar type boat, just not quite a "legal" 18Sq.

N5.5U convertible to 18Sq

You from Mn? I ask because you mentioned Aquarius, they support our fleet by buying advertising space at www.fleet444.com. We have a fun sail the may 19th if you're interested, we aren't limited to Hobie's.

I'm boatless.

Slagle:

You are saying that the SC18 mainsail is larger than 18 square meters, do I understand correctly?

If the boat is heavier, that does not make it 'illegal' for 18sq class, which is the implication I'm reading in your post. Only the oversize mainsail would cross the class legal lines. Please clarify.

thanks

BTW: my husband now has Palin's cat I sq. You are invited to come race with us here in OS, please come out and play with us other Sqheads...

Just hoping it was another local sailor to come enjoy the activities. Thought you may have bought the boat directly from Aquarius, or locally.

I'm boatless.

You are correct that the overweight status of the SC18 and the N18Sq does not affect their being class legal. I recall a reading a review of the SC18 when it was produced and the Main stock supplied main was too large for an 18 Square. Easy to fix with a legal sized main....

I would love to come play with some other boats, but chronically short handed at work and working 2 out of 3 weekends these days. Time off is too limited. Sad to admit, but I haven't been out sailing in over 2 years....
Still trying to get a life.

Steve
