Bob:

So how does the 750 compare to 28R speed wise. How do you like it? Son-in-law and I are looking at either in the future. Want something semi dry for young kids and something we can race. Both out of school and will be make good money soon. If you are ever over HYC way, how about a ride. We will help rig and derig.

In over 10 knots, the 750 is very close to the 28R in performance. In under 10 knots, the 28R has a slight edge but it is very small.

Both boats are excellent for racing, 28R better for limited overnight cruising. 750 does not pretend to be a cruiser, it's a daysailor/racer.

Thanks Bob. We may not be looking at overnight. But I think the 28R would be better for family. Sit down room and galley below right? Room for head? Daughter and grand kids would like that when we are playing. just have to look on used market. There was a 4 yr old on in Fla in June guy got for $60,000.

Thanks again,

Doug

That should go nicely with the Nacra A2 & VMW Blade you are also looking at.

A2 is no go. Blade will happen in 2008. Tri is way down the road, a partnership with son-in-law. I will sell the 17 and probably the 4.3 also. F boat is way down the road. BUT Chris, you know us, we never get enough boats. You guys have a small fleet there, between you and Tommy. What's the old saying. "You can tell the men from the boys, by the price of their toys" As new ones come out we always want them. Just think a Blade will solve cat needs and tri will keep the family happy. See you tomorrow night at planning meeting.

All of this has reminded me that the "Coastal Classic" record was pushed but not beaten by a monohull this year. This was big news and I remember overhearing the very rich mono sailor/owner of a brand new racing 90 footer harping on how the gap between mono and multi was closing. I did not chime in that the boat he was trying to beat was twenty years old and worth maybe a twentieth of his.
I have said I like all sail boats but that does not mean I take all who sail them seriously.

There is a big race here in the States, the TransPac, ( http://www.transpacificyc.org/ )from the west coast to Hawaii, but they didn't allow any multihulls in the event for years. It is usually a downwind sleigh ride and Roy Disney (of Disney World fame) usually builds a new boat, 80+ feet, just to win the event. I wonder if he's ever sailed on a 60 foot racing trimaran or on Play Station or if he still thinks 17 knots downwind is "Flying".

I just checked their web site and for this year, there are two multihulls entered, one is a 60'f tri and Pete Melvin (of Morelli and Melvin and A cat world Champion) is listed as Watch Captain. Should be very interesting vs. the 80-90 foot mono sleds. The race rules require the multihulls to be at least 45 feet in length yet the mono's only 26feet?! And the multihulls start two days after the fastest, biggest mono's. That's fair...NOT.

Hey guys, check out this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F-31-AC-C...108892049QQrdZ1

Not bad for an F31! Not sure what the AC is for though.

I am a Multihuller tried and true, but I sail Monohulls as well. Thursday nights on an Etchells, ABYC Fleet Club Championships on CFJ, and I just got a monohull fleet started and going really strong at the Club. I call it Thumb Boat Racing. Check it out here:

With One Design Radio Controlled boats everyone from any sailing disipline can participate. We have multihullers racing against monohullers and older sailors that have a hard time finding the energy to step on a boat for a race all on the dock having great times.

By the way we are up to 58 boats in the fleet, and I think I started the whole thing about 7 to 8 weeks ago.

Later,
Dan

We have sailed them in light breezes and I was out when it was blowing 20 but they do not go all that well in more than about 15.

Theres some guys in wisconsin that built a pool in a barn for RC regatta's. Complete with computer controlled fans, and a wave maker. Winter is way too long up here.

Bring your R/C to the F-18's. If you get a break, water at the dike is usaully flat. See you there,

Do you guys build ice rinks in vacant lots like the Canadians do?

We built rinks in our back yard every year. My brother and I were big into hockey. Being from Michigan we learned to skate when we were three. The rink was big enough that the neighborhood kids would come over after school and we would play until our parents would call us in at night. A lot of "Stanley Cups" won on that rink! Everyone wanted to be Marcel Deon (played for the Redwings for a while and probably the greatest player nobody has ever heard of). Now I live on a lake and my kids have the neighbors over for games.

Vacant lots are too far away and not convenient enough. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

We had one in the back yard too. It was a little bigger than half as long as regulation and about 2/3 as wide. Had lights around it, no boards and 6" high goals (no lift rule in place). It was abuot 50 yards from our back door so we flooded a path from the door to the rink (no putting skates on outside for us). We'd play every night until mom shut the lights off on us. On bright nights we'd keep playing without the lights until she'd start threatening us with our lives.

Lots of frozen body parts and good memories. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Arguing about Multi vs Mono Hulls is like passing gas. Your own smells good and everyone elses smells bad.
