Got tired of trying to follow two threads...

Worried - big drop in wind velocity registered on buoys and C-MAN stations north and south of the checkpoint - 10-13 knots ENE - still should be enough to get them through the surf line. Looks like a go.

Sweet. I guess the breeze was just N enough to power up for the surf. Glad to hear everyone is off okay. I hate to see something like this crunch a lot of boats...

Puh-leeze, dude. Did you think he'd do something to your boat besides making it faster? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

You misunderstand.

I'm more concerned about the safety of ALL MY FRIENDS out there than the bits of glass that constitute my boat.

My boat has insurance and can be replaced, my friends, not so much.

from accel chaos site... all is not completely well

It would appear that the surf is near impossible. But not impossible. Chris just called and said that Tybee tried to go and capsized and are now waiting on the beach for the right moment. OooLala went out and came back with a pair of broken rudders Tiki White went out, Capsized, went turtle and it is not clear if they broke their shrowd or mast, Tiki Orange went out and made it. That is one team at the moment. Team Accelerated Chaos Are in a holding pattern waiting for the right conditions.

I will keep you posted as I hear more.

Best of luck to everyone trying.

I think Kirk has a bunch of rudders that were reinforced for last year's Alter Cup... would be good for bouys I guess but I wouldn't trust them for the tybee

Agh! Video crew went home yesterday. I knew this would happen - sure wish things had worked out differently for Brian. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Says one team retired prior to the start- who?
Is the broken mast boat out now or do they have a spare?

All the phone numbers I have are busy/voice mail. At 5-after, Chuck said they were away, and I think he said that the "retired" team was going to try anyway. Wind was up and he had to hang up quickly, so I have no other details.

Where'd I put that rolaids? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Aarrrgh! I need an update! I think what hair I had this morning is jumping ship! This is the part of the race I don't enjoy, worrying about my friends. Hope no one got hurt.

How close in are they running up the coast? Can you see them from the beach?

I suspect Mischa will replace them himself for you, but since you asked...the 3rd gen rudders with significantly more surface area are better in light winds for maneuvering on the line, and while the 1st gen rudders do tend to cavitate a bit quicker they also have the lightest feel at speed. So, IMO it all comes down to what you want from your rudders. I am running 2nd gen rudders just because they seem to be a good comprimise between the two extremes.
