I have been working to make setup of my cat quicker, so I can spend more time sailing or helping others. I’ve got it down so I have quicker setup time with the spinnaker than my previous non spinnaker setup.

One thing that still seems to take time is getting the boat off the trailer on to the wheels and then back on the trailer (we store mast up). As I need to replace my rollers, I am thinking about keeping it off the trailer on 4 movable saw horse supports that allow me to slip the beach wheels right under the boat. Maybe make them out of painted 2x4s, plywood, and a rubberized door mat? Then strap the boat to the ground with anchors.

Anyone ever done anything like this before? Any Thoughts?

You store mast up? Why not leave it on the wheels? Get a set of nice big boat fenders for the stern. Move the wheels to bows. At Sail Newport we got some old tent stakes and pounded them into the ground and tied off on the stakes. The tent rental places gave us some old rusty 1" diameter tent stakes for free.

I Use 4 x wide tyres (245 or 225's appear to be about right) and then 4x tie downs; tyres are the best becasuse they have a little give in them and so when you tie the boat down they give a little. Saw horses won't give; thus how ever tight you tie the boat down you will still get it bouncing around a little = bad.

The tyres give just enough to allow a little movement but still be very snugly tied down.

My first choice would be to store the boat on the wheels and stern chocks. I would be careful about using round fenders under the sterns, they tend to roll out from under the boat.

My second choice is the 4 tires. I have seen it and it looks very reliable. The tires don't fall over, people don't mess with it, and it's recycling.

I remember seeing some stern chocks made from old tires in Virgina or South Carolina. The tires were old ATV or industrial tires cut in half and then the tire cut away to make a flat spot touching the ground. I was never able to track the builder down.
