I said it before on the old archaic forum, and I'll say it again here. This new forum ROCKS!

Let the old one die, I'm tired of looking at both just to keep from missing something interesting.

Let it die! Let it die! Agreed! - I find that the most usefull feature is that the forum remembers me and the threads I have viewed regardless of what PC or browser I was using at the time. If I check the forum at work (ALWAYS while on break ;-) and then check it later that night at home, it still indicates the subjects with threads I haven't seen (the number in parenthasis next to the thread subject) regardless of where I was when I viewed it - that is awesome!! No more clicking on threads, waiting for them to open, and then realizing that I've already read that one. I still can't see any disadvantage of the new forum (I do, however, have a cable modem at home and T1 lines at work so I wouldn't see speed issues). Rock on new Forum!

P.S. I'm half tempted to try and start a 'new forum campaign' but I'm to busy sailing - maybe this winter :-)

[color:blue][b]Jake
[color:blue][b]Nacra 5.2 (2112)

Gotta agree that this one is so slick it's unbelievable. I love the way that any thread that gets a new reply automatically goes to the top -- now you know the most popular subjects.
Another great feature is you have the ability to select the time area: the last week, last month, or all posting. In the old one we had to keep deleting stuff over a few months old -- if we kept all postings, it would take forever to load.
Also, have you ever belonged to a mailing list -- aaaagggghhhh! You would be deluged with email with debates on how to name your stupid boat.
Well, believe it or not, yoou can opt to have email replies emailed to you. Don't know why someone would except if they have a question and want to know the answer as soon as it is posted.
Anyway! The list goes on.
Rick White

Agreed, Rick. But you forgot to mention the feature which allows this forum to automatically know my precise sailing skill, and print out it's opinion below my name, next to each post.

I agree. this forum is great. Loads fast, enough people read it to keep it interesting, great posts on all types of boats!

I especially like it because I can't even access the old forum without getting a little window in the middle of my screen that locks up my whole browser, regardless whether I'm using Netscape 4.5 or IE 5.0, or even on a different computer. When I hit (ctrl)(alt)(del) it says "catsailor.com free Email - not responding" Same problem I had until I eventually gave up trying to get an email address. Hopefully it's getting all the others off that old forum and moving them here.... Has anyone other than Waveman got a "Catsailor.com" email address? How did you do it?

Tiim,

I agree. In fact, I don't even bother looking at the old forum anymore. By expanding and changing to "active in last day" or "last 2 days" , you can catch up on everything very quickly.

Other subject: When are the next videos due out?? Nos. 1-3 were great.

Agreed, the new forum is much better. I was a little sceptical at first but it seems like the new forum is the place to look now and the old forum is getting fewer and fewer posts.

The speed is good and I like how it remembers what you have read before.

Nice job Rick!!

Mike Hill
H20 #791

I don't know why I used Waveman -- just a whim at the time.., that and I am an officer of the IWCA (Intl Wave Class Assn), and the @catsailor.com was attained by using our FREE E-Mail. At the banner at the top of the Page, Just click on FREE E-Mail and sign up and start using it.
My real address is <rick@catsailor.com> which then forwards my mail to my server here in Key Largo. By the way, notice how easy it was to put my email address in, so that all you have to do is click on it and you are ready to send me stuff. Don't, however, if it is a complaint. Do, if it is praise -- the only benefits I have found so far in running this site. :-) Now see, I could have used the old way of putting in a sideways smile face, but now I can put a real one in --
Good luck,
Rick White

Rick, Thanks for all the work on the boards! Just a suggestion: Post your "complaint" email address, such as "Trust_me_I_Care@Catsailor.com" so all the complaints can be shuffled off to their appropriate spots. Then the public forum can all be wonderful compliments!

BTW, I'll try to keep my complaints private in the future, anyway.

Just want to add my name to the list of those pleased with the new forum format. While I still check the old forum, I'm happy to see the increase in activity here in the new space. Kudos to Rick and all those involved with making this site the place to be for cat sailors.

Kevin Rose
N6.0na #215
kevin@paddleways.com
I just had to post this. Both forums have their selling points, but my most serious objection to the old forum is the time to access it. I only have a regular old phone line. The time to enter the new forum is 5 to 10 seconds. The old takes 60 to 90 seconds to come up. And each time I return from reading a post on the old forum it is a least another 30 seconds to bring up the entire list again. I have to be desparate for reading material to go to the old. I hope more people will accept the feel of the new forum and move over.
