St. Louis, MO,

I just saw a "How it's Made" on Discovery last night. They were making Carbon masts. That was a really neat process. I was impressed with how clean a process it is. They use prepreg carbon and just wrap it all up and then vacum bag and bake. It comes out great. A little sand and paint and they are done. It made it look so simple it really makes me wonder how prices could be so high for a mast. I wonder how many $$$ of prepreg carbon go into that mast.

The masts were Hall. Any idea where they are made?

Interesting to review their pricing on carbon parts for A Class, i.e. mast blank at $2245

I gathered some info about the prices of different new A class cats (same package) for a potential customer located in the US East Coast:

VMI XJ USD 18,000
NACRA A3 USD 22,000
BOYER FIBRECRAFT TOOL USD 23,000
MARSTROM A CAT USD 26,500
GELTEK FLYER MK 2 USD 28,000

According to my opinion the best value for money is by far the VMI XJ, a boat absolutely capable of winning an A class Worlds with the right helmsman

The company Boyer Fibrecraft no longer exist so they can't build the Tool A-cat.

I seem to remember the moulds went back to Wayne Mercer some time ago.

I don't know who is producing the Tool hulls at this moment. But of course someone is.
