South to southwesterly winds 15 to 20 knots decreasing to 10 to 15 knots later.
Waves of 1 metre or less.

Thought I'd report in!

Winds did not live up to forcast.

No Rain, but started in 5-10 gusting to 0 and finished in 0 gusting to 0 and a nasty tide.

Sadly, I put in a discraceful performance. After winter fix ups and modifications, dry hulls and everything worked fine except for that thing on the end of the tiller. Late for the start... Had 3 goes at getting across the start (I need to pay more attention to the tides, and all down hill from there. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

On the upside, 3 positives were gained from the day.

1) I've joined a club that takes it's sailing seriously. ( when debating whether to send a boat out to tow me in, the decision was made that another 55 min at 0.000005 knots was much better than the ignomy of a tow. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

2) I'm now confident that at current rates, I will be a serious threat for the 2028 state titles! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

3) I could have been home not sailing. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Think I need some more winter sailing.... Is Sugarloaf up and runnin yet ?

At pittwater today we had a few pre season sprint races.
I was extreamly happy <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> with the performance of the mozzie up against 4 hobie 16s beat then around the course 2 out of 4 races <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> They couldn't believe how quick the new boat was.(Im still very rusty& learning).
Im just hoping that I keep improving and they might start taking the mozzie seriously up here.
And the other sailors consider a mozzie as an option <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Took jive/smik out for a testing sail today. 5-10 knots started off poorly having trouble getting the main to lock into the hook. Went out and found the sweet point of the boat straight away. Had lots of power and good acceleration which was a big surprise compared to 1635. Got a pic out on trap not flying a hull though just skimming the water.
Tried to get the main down and couldnt get it to unhook so dropped the mast nd sail together. All in all a rather good day out sailing.

I'm just over the hill from the big swarm at Somers so I'll be spending a bit of time over there next season.

Been a long time since I sailed regularly and that was on mono's. Got the tuning manual, and a book or 2. Just need to spend lots of time on the water, and after that, spend some time on the water. I still haven't quite come to terms with the differences between 2 hulls rather than 1, but no doubt it will come with practise.

Of the 6 times I've been out, all but one have been in very light conditions which have probably not been ideal for getting the feel of the boat. 6'4" and 95kg in <5 knots against a 6knot tide makes for fairly uneventful sailing. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Look out Hobie 16's, the fast ones would have to be good to train against. I am happy Top Gun is going well for you and your sailing the boat often.

How do all you guys usually go against the 16s (hobie)
We have about 20x16s at our club.

Generally the Mozzie will beat the Hobie in light winds. They are a heavy cat and need more wind to get them going. The Hobies come into their own above 15 knots where the power to weight ratio favours them however when the waves start to get big with even more wind 20 - 25 knots they tend to nose dive and cartwheel downwind.

If the Hobie has a light crew then they might just stand a chance against the Mozzie in light winds so watch out for the kids who crew together on a Hobie.

Since there are large numbers of Hobies at your club they might also have been race tuning against each other and honing their skills.

Good luck against the cometition ie. go out and kick their butts.

Sugarloaf winter series starts again on the 29th July for those with thick wetsuits.

I was out at Sugarloaf today, the Access dinghys were out training. I was only there an hour or so, but the water rose over an inch in that time! - The foot of the access ramp went under by about that much, so Yarra water are certainly pouring the water in for us.

The wind was 8-15knots.
The sailors are preparing for the 16 worlds in fiji next month.
As for the young kids(Jason waterhouse&Michel Mc cormack) they are at the youth worlds currently 4th after one day.
Its great to race with these guys (Rod waterhouse came third in the tybee 500 this year)I can learn allot
