Here is my contribution to bone head thread. I did not tie front of boat down on Hobie 17. I swap beachwheels between boats and had them tied to front of Mystere 4.3. Well the 17 lifted half have to Dike and as I saw it in rear view mirror it was at about a 45 degree angle. When I slowed down it caught the asphalt. OUCH!! See attached. We learn things the hard way sometimes!!!

OK, here's one. Someone mentioned using a gin pole to help step a heavy mast. I bought an EZ-Step and set it up for the first time. I just could not understand why I should go to all of the hassle of tying off the trap lines to the front beam. I had the boat in my front yard near my house and started to crank up the mast with the winch. The mast raised up a few feet, then started to swing sideways, clocking away from the midline of the boat! Swinging fast now, it smashed into my house breaking not just the window but ripped the entire aluminum window frame out of the wall. It ended up with the window frame hanging from the mast tip about 6 feet inside my daughter's bedroom. Since the family was out shopping I rushed off to Home Depot, found the exact window frame, hurried home and replace the whole thing and cleaned up the mess in the house just as they arrived. They knew nothing and this is the first time I have ever told of my little secret. Thank goodness my wife does not read Catsailor.
In praise of the EZ-Step, I set it up correctly and used it successfully for the next 3 years. Very easy if you follow instructions and adjust it properly.
If you shot video you could have won $100,000 on America's Funniest Home Videos. Be prepared!!
So what you're saying is that I should buy a helmet cam and use it daily, certain that I will soon film myself starring in an idiot adventure that AFV will pay big bucks for. Hmmm...sounds reasonable. Shouldn't take more than a week or so to catch something of value.

The Hero3 cams that Jake likes should do the job. The return on investment time should be very short.

Ouch Doug, what a bone head! Have backed my car too far around and dented the car with bows. Right where the electric aerial is so it goes CLACKERCLACKERCLASCKER! to remind me I am a bone head. You could be a catsailer if your boat dented your car. You could be a cat sailor if you don't care you boat dented your car. Left bungs out....but did not leave the beach. Left sail, boards or mainsheet at home. Doh!
Better a "Bone Head" than a "Dead" head on that one! Lucky.
Was a bone head and left the plugs out more than once. I have sailed out through surf without plugs. That makes getting back in pretty tough.
Biggest.. hardest to live down? Not "really" my fault, but at a photo shoot in Key Largo we had the boats pretty much ready to put away for the night and sitting on moorings close to the beach. Some clouds cleared away and they wanted to get the twilight on the background. We had an SX with Doug and Maggie Skidmore and me on a Sport Cruiser. Only the SX made it in the shots as I just couldn't keep up... then I noticed the Cat Trax tied to the shrouds... DOH!
You won the bone head award with that one!!!! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> We at least you were ready for instant beaching when you got there (LOL) <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Leathers, helmet, the whole works. I had on a $600 riding jacket, I'm convinced it saved my life. I only had jeans on my legs and they didn't come out so well.
