I have been interested in bringing my 5.8 to Heckscher and trying the Great South Bay. My concern is the depth. One thing I don't worry about on the North Shore is burying my dagger boards(they are fixed and do not automatically retract). Unfortunately the wind is not as good as the South Shore. Can someone let me know the scoop. I'd like to take a drive down and check out the launch site. What time on the week ends do most people get down to feild 7?

HI Bob,

Various times from early to late morning, assuming we're going.

Here's a Chart online.

At this moment, I know of one Tornado who's planning to go on Saturday. Weather permitting, of course. I'll go either day the weather cooperates, with Saturday being my preference. Keep in touch and if necessary, I"ll go with you. Vast poortions of the Bay are plenty deep enough for completely random hard sailin'. Some comparitively small portions are a mixed bag, though. Generally, the northern half of the bay is consistently deep.

Hi Bob,

I've sailed both of my Nacra 5.5SL's ('93 & '97) many years at Heckscher without ever touching bottom, boards all the way down. I do, however, check the charts when going somewhere new.

I sail out east now, but hope to do some races/events at Hecksher next summer, so I look forward to meeting you.

Good luck!
