Hey boys (and girls),
The SC20 has moved on to the Chesapeake, and I'm looking to replace it with an F16 or F18. Budget is $5K to $8K, I'm in WA, so a west coast boat would be preferable, but the budget limits the pool of affordable boats, and there seem to be lots more cats on the east coast. Some A cat sailors from the NW here are headed to FL for the Worlds in mid Nov, and might be enticed to drag a boat back for me if I can locate one by then. Anyone got any leads? Thanks!

Dave,
We've got an active F18/Tiger group in the Seattle area.
And next years Tiger Continentals will be in the Northwest - Harrison Hot Springs, BC. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I've also sent you a PM

You can sail in a hot spring? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Now that is so cool, you've really figured out that "cold northland" thing! Four-season sailing, too.

It sounds all great at first; But,
Let's just say that some people should not sail in a thong! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Dearest.Friend,

This is to inform you about my success in getting the fund transferred under the cooperation of a new partner from South Korea. Presently i'm in South Korea for investment projects with my own share of the total sum.
Meanwhile,i didn't forget your past efforts and attempts to assist me in transferring those funds despite that it failed us some how.
Now contact my secretary, his name is Vincent Mike and his email address is( secretary_vicent@yahoo.fr ) ask him to send you the total US$800,000.00 in a Certified Bank Draft which i kept for your compensation for all the past efforts and attempts to assist me in this matter. I appreciated your efforts at that time very much.

So feel free and get in touched with my secretary Vincent Mike and instruct him where to send the amount to you.
Please do let me know immediately you receive it so that we can share the joy after all the suffering at that time. in the moment, i am very busy here because of the investment projects which I and my new partner are having at hand.

Best Regards
Mr.Ruben Moussa

Dave:

I really think you would be doing yourself a favor buy staying with the fleet that is growing in the Washington area. That, as Don mentioned, is the F18/Tiger. What do you think your plans for sailing are? Just to have a fast boat to sail, sailing with your kid, organized racing? These all play a part in what price you will be paying for a boat. Without relation to another boat the I-18 is a fast boat and you can get one pretty cheap. It will not be competitive, in most instances, to one of the newer designs but a fast enough boat for a thrill. You probably did not have much competitive sailing with an SC20 as there are not many around and I doubt there was much of a fleet in your area, so an I-18 may be just the ticket.

I sometimes run across used Tigers and Nacra F18s if a bit more money will get you on the race course, and that is what you want to pursue.

Thanks Dan,
I'm not a racer, too much travel for me, I just wanna jump on the nearest boat when it's blowing and I can break free. I end up sailing solo much of the time, but want a boat that can be run 2 up, want a spin boat that's well sorted, easy to push with eager, willing but marginally skilled crew. Like to sail when it's blowing hard, 15 to 25 kts. I have a Boyer MkIII for the light air days, and a 24' cat on a big mountain lake in northwest MT so I can get powered up regularly when the summer doldrums hit the inland northwest.
Seems like F18s and F16s would fill the bill for the spring and fall winds close to home. Have been out on a Tiger a couple of times and loved it, although the lighter weight of the F16 is appealing for those times that I'm dragging (figuratively) the boat in and out of the water by myself. Any leads and advice are much appreciated!

I think you have been answering your own question. The only boat that works for what you want is the F16. Yes, everyone scream at the F16 guy for saying it. The F18 is a great boat but can any average size person right it? F16 240lbs, F18 397 (infusion, from nacra website).

Well that sort of answers the question I think.

Only one boat type fits that description.

I agree that based on Dave's description of his sailing needs the F16 fits the profile.

But I think it's a little presumptuous to state there is only one boat that fits his profile. It definitly narrows it down a lot I'll give that. Finding the boat in his price range might be the ultimate determiner.

There'll be pros and cons to most of the boats he'll be looking into now. Most will fit his needs just fine, but have strengths that only Dave will be able to sort out.
