Darry,

Racing was definitely interesting especially in the light wind conditions and the short course when there was a "log jam" at the windward mark. Slowest divisions started first so that there wasn't too much time between races.

Handicap results were based on individual handicaps from previous club results and naturally some improved dramatically over 3 days of racing. Some had chosen not to race much prior to the series or had some bad results in stronger winds so that could have improved their handicap.

Regards,

Peter Foulsum

p.s. Matt always does well in light winds being a light weight skipper. But then he is also going well in strong winds too.

Some of the dinghys went well using VYC handicaps too, especially the Pacers which is a good thing for a training boat.

Individual handicaps compared with VYC and line placings can reveal alot about a sailors ability if enough results are taken into account but they are no good at all if only a small sample is taken. If done right they can identify an improving sailor such as Matt who won the Mozzie Nationals on handicap and has done well again in your regatta.

Matt also won the non-spinnaker division at the Sauna sail last year.

One of the benefits of the spinnaker is when the Mozzies get to share twice as many prizes because they are in two different divisions!
