The last time I waited on the swinging ICW bridge at Sargent Beach(end of TX Hwy 457) back in Jan. 07, I saw a bait & beer camp/seafood restaurant on the side of the road by the bridge, and that's probably less than 1/4 mi. from the beach.
You might be able to make it to Port O'Connor the 1st day and get food, rations, etc. there too.
Like others have said, it'd be pretty tough on a P16, I think. They won't let Prindles in the GT300 - for a good reason probably.

I don't think that has anything to do with seaworthiness or safety of the boat itself. When a distance race has a minimum size, it is usually because of the speed difference (race committee people don't want to be up all night on the beach waiting for the smaller, slower boats to finish -- and worrying about them). I wonder if there will ever be a distance race again for the "slow boats," like the Hobie 16's that pioneered the Worrell 1000. Meanwhile, I think it's great that people are doing camping trips on small cats. Sounds like fun -- as long as you heed all the great advice that has been given on this thread. | | | Re: Is this Possible...

We have the East Coast Piers Race which has 2 couses. One a few miles shorter than the other and there are "time" gates along the way which you have to make to be alowed to continue to the next. I've done it for years and the first time was in a Dart 18 (but it was a Looooong race). Some of the slower boats do the shorter course, but there in nothing stopping them from attepting the long course. Great weekend's racing and partying and the proceeds go to the Cirdan Trust.
