Easter regattas are coming up next month, March 21-24.
There are three regattas on the Victorian web site.
It would be good to go to an Easter regatta where the most mossies will be sailing, so who is going where and how many boats are you expecting. In the past i have gone to Lake Bogga normally 12 mossie, but not this year due to water level.
Rob We are off to St Leonards Regatta for Easter if anyone is interested. Two races each day with mixed fleets of Cats and mono’s. If anyone is thinking about going it would be worth booking some accommodation soon.
I will be on holiday in Queensland sailing a 33' cat around Fraser Island, so "suffer in your jocks. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />"
Hope the weathers going to be a bit better than it has been up there. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
The company I was to sail with in Queensland has gone into liquidation and I am now no longer sailing around Fraser Island at easter. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> There's not much chance I'll get my money back. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> I have booked accomodation in northern NSW for the trip up which I don't want to cancel as I will loose more money. This means I will be stuck in NSW leading up to easter and will have no hope of getting back to Vic for the Easter Regattas. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
Will or Ben are you planning to sail at any Easter regattas in NSW? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I'll have to try and make other plans and see what happens. If there's a regatta to attend I'll probably take my boat with me, if not It'll be a non sailing holiday. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Lake Bullen Merri sounds like the place to go, Ross and Jon have said they might make it and Gordan is undecided, so should be some mossies, other wise it will be just chasing the tipans around the lake.
Somers is running Easter Regatta with races on Saturday and Sunday (morning and afternoon)and Monday (morning). WR courses for kite boats available in Division 1. Visitors welcome. Lunch available. Expect 6+ Mozzies on the water.
Looks like 3 Mossies from Ballarat are going to Bullen Marri this weekend. We will possibly have our own class as there are always some boats from the Western District turn up.
Good luck to everyone attending Easter regattas. May you pick every wind shift lift and get no knocks. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Hope everyone puts the Mozzie name at the top of the results sheets and comes home with lots of trophies. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Another great turn out at Lake Bulleen Merri for the 47th Western Region Regatta, I don't have official numbers, but I would be fairly well placed to say 80 boats.
Fleets of Mosquitos, Taipans, 4 x Aclass, Cobra and Dolphin State Titles as well, 2 x Taipan 5.7, Couple of Paper Tigers and plenty of monos as well.
Mostly stronger winds, in shifty and patchy conditions. One race Friday and Monday and two each Saturday and Sunday.
I'm sure Greymatter, Ross and Company can give a more in depth report on the mossie placings.
But again, after a bit of slump previous to last year, this regatta had bounced back to be what it once was, HUGE.

AUS 329 'GOT WOOD' SEEDY PIRATES RACING TEAM
The Somers Yacht Club Easter regatta saw 65 yachts competing over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning. The consisted of 60 club entries and 5 visitors.
Conditions were generally light for the entire series with only occasional trapezing. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> The Mozzies were racing in division 2 with 24 yachts consisting of 11 club Mozzies, 7 Hobie 16s, 2 Hobie Turbo's, 2 Paper Tigers, 1 Hobie 14, and a Nacra 16 sq.
Placings were filled with Mozzies for the entire regatta and generally it was Mozzies in the top 6 places. It just wasn't the weather for Hobie 16s. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Race winners were Race 1 James Pearse, Race 2 Matt Stone, Race 3 Brian Gristwood sailing cat rigged, Race 4 ME <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> (I picked the wind shifts), Race 5 Matt Stone. Minor place getters consisted of the above along with Simon Boadle, Malcolm Kemp and Mal Otto.
Jeremy Pearse had a collision with a Pacer in Race 1 which effectively forced him to retire from the rest of the series. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> Jeremy was flying his kite and on starboard and went straight into the side of the Pacer also on starboard. Jeremy was unable to see the Pacer with the kite up and the Pacer didn't see the Mozzie until contact was made. Damage to the Pacer was extensive whilst Jeremy's Mozzie only appeared to have a small "nose bleed" in the port bow. Hope your Mozzie is well again soon and back in action for the Autumn series.
As Matt said there was 80 boats plus at Bulleen Merri, 8 mossies, there would have been 2 more but I was told by one of the affected sailors there is a policy of the VYC that doesn't recognize clubs with less than 10 sailing members preventing him from renewing his silver card(if this is the case it is devastating to inland clubs trying to servive that have not seen water for years.). Gary Lane was also in attendance but was sailing with his brother Ian (also an ex mossie champion) on a RL 24.
Overall a great weekend of sailing sun and fun at a lake that will challenge the ability's of any sailor.
Jon is chasing the results and will give a report soon.
Here's a report from Garry on the Lake Bonney regatta.
Quote
Just a short report on Lake Bonney. 9 Mosquitos took to the water at Lake Bonney to be faced with very, very light shifty winds for both Saturday and Sunday, causing problems to even get over the start line at times with some wind shifts in excess of 180 degrees and only staying in that direction for a short time. The seasoned lake sailors, Garry Johnstone and Tim Kennedy showed the experienced sea sailor Darren Kopp how it was done in the first 2 races, then Darren decided to use cassette tape as his wind indicator and took the honors in the next 2 races with Tim and Garry in hot pursuit, until approx 30 metres from the finish line Tim got caught in a "black hole" and let half the fleet over the line in front of him. The race crew so determined to get all 5 heats sailed shortened the course even more than it had been and sent us out again, with Tim getting the jump on the rest of the fleet and revenge for the previous races problems was first over the line in front of Garry and Darren. Brenton Delaine showed he was familiar with the shifty winds and sailed to the head of the fleet overtaking son Beau at times during the weekends races. Even with the light winds everyone had a good time and enjoyed the Lake Bonney hospitality Final results were; Garry Johnstone 1st, Tim Kennedy 2nd, Darren Kopp 3rd.
Easter at Bullen Merri was fantastic, 6 races, only 1 drifter,7 mozzies racing, about 70 boats on lake, what a good weekend of really close racing and socializing. Yours Prestissimo 1755.

Pleased to report that the lone Mozzie @ McCrae has finally had a result. Managed 2nd for Div 2 for Easter regatta, 3 shortened courses in light conditions with vigorous Easter tides, sailing against a gaggle of PT's.
Not sure if it was all that transom watching at the States, the new gloves, modifications to battens as per Peter F's advice, or just dumb luck with the flukey winds and stong tides. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Which ever it was, it was nice to wave the Mozzie flag near the sharp end for a change. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Cheers

at lake Bullen Merri the last race was a stern chaser. Garry Lane put up a prize for the mosquito fleet, of a bottle of wine to the first to cross the line. And the winner was Andrew. very good event hope to be back next year.
