I'm cleaning out the basement. Anybody need some beachcat wheels. These came with the HT and I modified them to fit the Acat, so they are Acat width now.

bill should post his recipe for homemade beach wheels once every couple months. I cooked up a set last year and they work well.
Do you have a link somewhere, I'm very interested in DIY beach wheels! Especially ones with a proven track record!
hopefully bill has the recipe, I can't find it. The only "hard" part is making the cradles but you can use large PVC pipe or use casting material (water activated fiberglass) coated with epoxy resin molded directly on the hulls.

water activated fiberglass casting material? Is that something from the medical industry (bet that's not cheap unless it's a job related subsidy).
You can easily mold cradles directly to you hull by turning the boat over, covering with plastic sheeting (to protect the hull), laying on carpet, then laying on fiberglass and resin. If you want to get really fancy, you can form up some clay or similar to support the carpet to form a lip shape around the edges.

yeah, I like that- job related subsidy <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> probably not cheap I guess (I just checked, 3x15 roll 150$ or so. the problem is that it has medical written on it somewhere. remove that word and the price drops by half I am sure) Makes me wonder though about some type of mesh that can be used for the same purpose- but much much thicker than the standard glass cloth. I wonder how many layers of glass you could put together and wet out in one "pour"
The benefit of the standard beach wheels is that their cradles are very big and therefore don't pinch the hulls if you don't put them under the hulls directly straight. If the molded cradles aren't made somewhat wider and flared then you easily dent the skin (on lighter boats) just putting the wheels under. The HT cradles that came with the boat were brutal in the regard.

Depends on the resin used. If you use a good laminating polyester resin, you can probably lay out 10 layers of glass - no problem. Cheap Bondo brand resin, one or two layers tops (it will twist / warp with more so you have to gradually do layers at a time). With decent epoxy, you can do 10 layers no problem.
You could lay in towels or some other foam padding to give the additional room needed under the carpet for wider cradles. All it takes is a little tape to hold it in place.
