That's a shame, because they were in third place overall after three legs.

What a shame indeed! I found myself rooting for many of the teams these few days, but these guys were just spectacular! So sorry they are out of the race.

The leaders should be in sight soon if not already, because they are close to Daytona Beach Shores. Rick says the wind is now coming out of the south, right up the beach, so the boats may be tacking downwind.

The dismasting was in fact due to the forestay chainplate failing. Never seen a failure like this, the chainplate snapped in half.

Word is that they will take the 8 hour penalty and setup again in Daytona. This is not confirmed though.

Im back to work today, but have two days of helicopter video to edit and will attempt to get some up over the weekend.

First three boats, in order, are:
Tybee
Velocity
Marley's Yellow (Lohmayer)

Seacats web site said Marley's White, which is incorrect, except that they also said Lohmayer, which is right.

All three boats finished within a span of about 3 minutes. No other boats in sight.

if the chain plate failed at the weld then I've seen it before and been on a boat when it did. No fun!

Sorry for the delay -- I was tied up on the phone.

Next three boats are:
Accelerated Chaos
Cat Fever
SeaCats

And Cat in a Hat is about to finish.

Moose-Burd and Marley's White are still out.

Marley's White is coming in to the beach now.

There is a rumor that Moose-Burd (the F18) shattered a daggerboard somewhere along the way and may have hull damage.

Maybe we will learn more about that as soon as Marley's White lands.

Haven't heard about Moose-Burd yet, except the Seacats site says they hit a turtle.

Meanwhile, at our Tybee page Rick has posted story and pictures from the finish -- lots of great pictures. And if you didn't see the pictures from the start yet, keep scrolling down.

Moose-Burd is now in sight, limping in. They indeed hit something and broke their daggerboard -- don't know whether it was a turtle or a ray or what. They are taking on some water, but will be on the beach soon.

Anyway, they are okay.

don't think so, but during the landing, they ran over the finish line flag (and nearly the guy holding it) and upon the ground crew trying to take them back out to re-round, the crew pulled on the spin pole and snapped it in half too. The F18 crew is saying they're out at this point; spinnaker has major damage (which is why they came in without a chute), short one daggerboard (no spare), and now a broken spinnaker pole. Hard to blame them.

Team Moose-Burd did not have any hull damage. The board delaminated after rounding the cape. They had a tough day as they also tore the spin where the taped seam let go. Then as they finished they took out the flag at the finish line, and had to bring the boat back out to re-cross the line correctly, but fell and broke the spin pole. We are all trying to help them have the option to continue the race with the nessisary parts, but as we can all imagine it has been a tough day for them. We will see the final verdict in the morning.
Today was a tough day with lots of parts breaking on many boats. Two long days coming up.... both look to be down wind days in strong breezes.

Yeah, the Orlando Wx is saying south east at 15-20 tomorrow, maybe more of the same on Friday...

What ever happened to the concept of having spare parts?

Too bad they have the only Tiger in the race, otherwise the other Inter 20's could loan them parts. Still, isn't there a Hobie Dealer not too far away, in Melborne or Daytona?

This is Moose-Burd's second bow sprit broken. They broke one earlier during a pitchpole.
Apparently, they are retiring and were no shows at the skippers meeting at 9AM

Tomorrow the start may be at 9am.., we will be notified of this tonight.

At the skippers meeting Larry Ferber of Cat in a Hat said if anyone is having problems to turn their radios to channel 16. Larry said, "Since I am usually near the back of the pack, I may be able to be of help to anyone that needs it."
Sort of like the Ski Patrol cleaning the mountain at the end of the day. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The F18 is a Infusion which is a Nacra product. Not a Tiger
