So, first 15 minutes of a race this morning.. someone I never met says something like "I'm here now, want to talk trash?"
Who are you, Bret Moss? (He said his name was a different sailor in southern florida who I've met and is a nice guy).
I believe he said something to me in a previous thread about "growing a sack." How about growing enough of one to use your real name when getting into it with others.
let me know so I can send you a pm and we can deal with this offline.

well.. whatever. It worked... pissed me off for most of the day. you win. And yes, didn't take me long to post it on here. Let me know who you are and I'll make sure I never come to your neck of the woods and I'll make sure I don't race if you are in mine. I knew there was a reason why people don't get into racing.

This is unfortunate. Situations like these make sailing zero fun.

I used to experience this on a monthly basis!

we ran a LAN party (a place for geeks to go and play games etc) with an online forum. Every month some numb nuts would start some sort of conflict online, typicaly over the most trivial issues.

So once a month we would get together and meet face to face. I found the most troublesome online individuals were the quietest people in real life.

Patrick,

in my experience, when somebody feel they have a grugde they will usually try to "get even". There dont have to be much of a connection to the reason for the grugde.

As a growing class we are a good target. There have also been some unfortunate posts made online over the time, so I guess there are many who are nursing old grugdes. That is a good reason to be very polite when including other classes/boats in our discussions (not targeted at you Patrick) so we dont give them reason to bring old muck to the surface again. This is really just common courtesy so it should not be a problem.

I find it much easier to back off when online or just defusing a potential conflict with a "whatever". It is not worth getting worked up over anyway. Getting somebody in my face in real life is much harder to handle well when the blood begins to boil.

I'm sorry too, but I hope you don't hold FL sailors at fault. There are so many nice sailing guys and gals in this state and we'd all love to have you come and race with us. - G

Patrick,
One thing that I have found is that people that I have met and dealt with
who sail F16s all over the world are really nice people.
Great fun to be around and the ones I've sailed against great fun on and off the water.

In many ways we are spoilt by the good company that we get to keep.

For someone to act like this they would have to be upset and pretty uptight.

Life is too short to worry about them.

Hope you continue to enjoy your sailing and more than interesated to
hear about your experiences.

Regards,
Phill

I know that the voices in my head aint real,

Agree with what Phill says.

Don't let others spoil your fun.

Patrick, don't let it get to you. Bret has obviously got a problem - and it's not you! The fact that he hasn't even got the balls to use his own name after telling you to grow a sack is just so laughable!

Unfortunately, there are confrontational people in this world just looking for perceived slights, when we encounter them it seems there's very little you can do other than let them rant but not let it affect you...

Just go out and enjoy your sailing, there are plenty of nice people in the sport who vastly outweigh the idiots...

I'm really sorry to hear this Patrick, mostly because my public personality over the last several years is most likely far more to blame for the lead up to this situation then you are.

If so indeed then I'm sorry to have indirectly contributed to ruining your day.

I'm not religious but I think Jesus gave an all-time great one for such situations.

"Forgive them, for they know not what they are doing"

If it ever comes to more then words then I present the following quote I once found written on a sword :

"Draw me not without ample provocation, sheet me not without honour"

Don't let him get your spirits down !

Indeed :"And yes, didn't take me long to post it on here."

There is an old Sean Connery movie where he says something like, "never bring a knife to a gun fight!"

This is getting way out of hand. You guys got me thinking of ways to mount a gattling gun on the deck. Hey wait! James Bond put up rockets. . .

Patrick,

We refer to this type of person as a tosser in Aus.

These days it takes all kinds of personalities.

Fortunately for us these butt*oles all seem the be attracted to the same maunfacturer.

I hear you guys. Thanks....
I have heard alot about this particular sailor and have just figured my opinion of him meshes with the majority of sailors who know him.

He has a very dry sense of humor and he's always been helpful to me. I'm confused, doesn't sound like the guy I know.
