anybody following the current thread on the F17 sloop rig on the F17 forum?
Not meaning to sling stuff but...

while I am at it... how can an unregistered person named "nacra class" post on the forum but no one else? Can we have someone do that for the "F16 class" or "VWM Class?"

Seems like you posted just fine, or am I missing something?
Wouter has posted as well. So I dont think anyone has been prohibited from posting in that forum.

I think PTP means "unregistered" is unusual. I wondered that, too, and have seen it elsewhere on Catsailor. I thought you couldn't post on any forum unless you registered. Notice that you can't click on the name and see their profile or send a PM. This would leave Catsailor open to robot spamming, I would think.

It is probably some special account set up in coperation with Rick. Or it might be an ordinary account where the user have turned off the "view profile" option.

Patric, what did you mean by:

Can we have someone do that for the "F16 class" or "VWM Class?"

What are you suggesting. Have you got a good idea?

It just seems like the "nacra class" unregistered user exists solely to promote the 17 and can't be identified. Is it actually the manufacturer? If so and they can advertise like that then maybe the other manufacturers should have an unregistered name to post under as well.
In the end, it isn't that big of a deal IMO (I actually meant to delete my post last night but forgot).
What was bothering me was the false advertising concerning the cost comparison between the "F"17 and F16.

Patrick,

I think it might be a good idea to have a "conversation starter" like the user in question seem to work at. If it was pure advertising I think Rick and Mary would step in..

For me cost comparison is quite easy. It boils down to two packages with a price for each. Mea maxima culpa if the packages are not directly comparable (I would not know, but I would check it if I was in the market). I am very comfortable in the F16 concept and class.

I have not even looked at that forum since I think day 1. I have an F16, why would I go on the F17 forum.

I didn't like it when others were coming here, talking trash about the F16 class, I hope none of you are doing that over there.

We have plenty to talk about here without me having to go play in their sandbox.

The nacra account is an unregistered accounts. That is why you cannot click it or anything. This feature is enabled deep inside the forum features. It also usualy set per sub forum. Maybe it was overlooked when the subforum was created. Also regarding the posting in this sub forum if you do not an f16 is not a good approach. Reason is the F16 is a formula class boat that can gain from the F18, F20 or any other high perf cat. Another reason is this particular forum does not specify where we can or cannot post.

I agree, and I am not necessarily trying to stir things up... but just trying to clarify something that was said. If someone were to start quoting prices on the F16 forum about the "F"17 and they thought it was wrong I am sure one of them would chime in. I didn't say anything nearly as inflammatory as some of the nacra reps have said here.

Sorry. It was just an oversight. When Rick set up that forum, he forgot to set the permissions for use. It has been corrected, and Nacra Class will now have to register in order to post anything.

No anguish at bringing the "Test" here? Thought sure I'd catch hell from someone.

Stir, stir. Surely I'm not the only smart butt left in world!

I know! Norway is drilling 65 miles of the Florida coast!

The Norwegians are coming! The Norwegians are coming!

And I would even welcome such a correction.

Facts must remain facts and stand up to scrutiny by all possible parties, related to F16 or not.

I agree with PTP that posting on the other forum requires more restrained and "good taste" then posting on ones own forum. I will however post on the F17 to correct, clearify or get correction c.q. clearification on factual issues. And I think anybody else is correct to do so too overthere and indeed overhere.

Wouter - dont go starting fires in other peoples back yard.....thay will just do the same here. Your point of view is generally not well received because of the way you relay the message.

Remember that F16 class is important not your ego or pride.

The bottom line for me and my back is this, the F17 is about 100 lbs. heavier than the F16 and if Matt were to go up against Bob Curry (or anyone else) on an F17, I would put my money on Matt and the F16. The prices given over there are BS, as we all know Nacra and Hobie will sell new boats cheap to get the class established, then once there are some fleets, the prices go up. Witness the Hobie Tiger introduced several years ago at $9,995. Try to get a new one near that price today. But of course, cost of building materials has gone up quite a bit too, which is why I don't think the F17 price being quoted there is anything more than an -introductory- price.

Nacra builds a great boat, I have always loved my Nacra boats, but they are heavy, no doubt. We should be able to keep up with the F17's, boat for boat. What do they rate? And what is their class boat min wt.?

Timbo,

while what you write probably is very true, I think we would be better off by just saying that the price is wrong and give them the adress to the F16 dealers.
I think what you wrote earlier and what Marcus wrote above is what we need to keep in the back of our mind at all times.
