I lived on the beach in Del Mar (north San Diego) and saw thousands of sunsets and never saw the green flash. Then one clear sunset, there it was! Flash, green as grass, huge! I was alone but up the beach it was busy with people. The entire beach crowd let out a roar and clapped, waving their arms, confiming that it was not wishful thinking or the Bud doing the flash. Never again have I seen it. However, once was enough for me to believe.

If the horizon is clear we're pretty much guaranteed seeing the green flash. Ray Bans with G-15 lens seem to enhance the color.

I have seen it only once in my life. I saw it in Islamoroda near the Laura Lei (sp). I was waterskiing at sunset and wiped out just before the sun set.
