Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Does anyone have any sort of list of coordinates for the Steeplechase they could send me or give me Friday? I just bought a new GPS but didn't buy any of the software to upload routes and etc... do I need this? I also have a mac.. so would I have a hard time with any of this software? Thanks! -Todd Your screwed ... twice. You need the software and I have no idea if it will run on a mac! Check your email - I mailed you my files for steeplechase - but beware...they're old and make SURE they have the right bridge marked for day2. Won't help much unless you have the Garmin software though.

Posts: 2,490 On the Water | Todd (Wildsail), you are screwed as for the easy way, but I think you still have a few options. The painful way is use the handheld to build the route. It can be done it is just slow panning around on the map to select the waypoints for the route. You can also use the coordinates (lat/long) that Jake sent. The other long shot is. . . .check and see if someone else has a current "cX" series hand held, including the legend series. Both have microSD flash memory. You should be able to copy the route and/or waypoints from someone else's handheld memory to the microSD flash memory, put the card in your unit, and then transfer the waypoints and/or route to your unit's memory. Wish I was there.

Can't help you with that one. I just bought a new GPS but didn't buy any of the software to upload routes and etc... do I need this? I also have a mac.. so would I have a hard time with any of this software? Thanks! -Todd
What's your brand of GPS? They all have software for the mac, from tomtom to Garmin via Magellan. Search versiontracker.com for your brand of GPS for a start. | | | Re: Help with Garmin 76Cx

You have to already have Mapsource installed for that update to run on your computer. You CAN, however, download and install the Garmin "training center" and the Mapsource download will recognize that as an installation and install properly.

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Your in the right place for software. I purchased a Map 76CSX and a software package earlier this year of ebay. There is a grey area with the software in America that people can sell chunks of the software for a state or given area. I got Southern and Eastern Australia Bluechart, Citi Navigator 2009 and 250,000 km2 Contours for Australia all bundled together on one card for $170 all I had to do was put the card in and go. The guy I got it from in Australia was really helpfull with getting me up and going and I still ask him questions now which he happily answers. In Aus we have some free land based map sets called Shonky Maps and Tracks for Australia. I have recorded my sailing track on Tracks for Australia, you may have something similar in US. PM me if you want the e-mail for the guy that organised my mapsets regards

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I havent bothered with GPS in a while. I've gone through so many devices and they all get either lost or fried. Now, My only device is a solar compass and a watch with a countdown timer. And paper maps for distance races.
And I've only really needed the compass once to get home, it was really foggy.

The Tybee500 aside, I've made the same transition.

Posts: 756 Newport, RI | Just traded in the 76 I bought last week for a Colorado 400C at west marine They have it on sale for only $300 after mail in rebate. After spending $150 on the 76 and looking at spending another $150 for bluechart software it just didn't make sense when I could buy a color gps with all the U.S. coastal bluechart charts already unlocked for $300. Seemed like quite a deal to me. Came with the waypoint manager cd too.. so we'll be trying to get everything uploaded before the race. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...olt&gclid=CNbqj86at5cCFQhJagodeQtnTA | | | Re: Help with Garmin 76Cx

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Go to the maptech website here . Pan and zoom in, and your cursor will spit out GPS coordinates at the left of the chart. You'll probably want the marker right north of Jewfish creek for the start, the channel marker at the west side of Angelfish creek for the turn, and the finish day 1 at Anne's beach. Day two is up to you, but looking at the charts would at least give you the GPS points to figure out your own waypoints. If I had my Garmin 76 handy, I'd send the coordinates, but it's probably easier for you on the maptech chart. The "we'll just follow the M20" strategy doesn't always pay off
