Congratulations!
Is there any good skiing to be done in the UK?
There are always quite a few Brits at the indoor skislope here in Holland.

Do you snowboard as well? I switched from skiing a few years ago.

UK skiing is either indoor or Dryslopes, or outdoor in Scotland.

I snowboarded for a few days and got bored once I could carve down reds and ride OP. Went back to skiing and have not strapped a board on since; maybe I will one day....

Congratulations Simon!

If you get into challenging backcountry terrain, snowboards rule in all conditions except for ice/glaciated slopes. I guess you dont get much of that in England or the Netherlands, but up here it is quite common.

PS: Started my skiing/snowboarding season last weekend with 600 heightmeters backcountry slopes. grin

From my experiance snowboards are the biz when you can maintain speed, the minute you can't ( which in all truth is probably more than 50% of the time, you are a one legged liability that has to be towed along by the nearest skier. Snowboards are easy in off piste but once you can master off piste ski ing then you will never look back on the boards. cool

When are you going to invite us over for abit of off piste then Rolf, 600m in your back garden sounds right up my street.

The thing about speed is that you need mountains sufficiently steep who runs all the way down to where you parked the car. The northwest coast of Norway is perfect for that.

Come anytime you like, and we can compare notes when we are back in the car. I did free heel off-piste skiing for more than 15 years before I saw the light. grin

Something I would really like to try one day is snowkiting, I know there are a few places in Norway to do this.
An activity that combines my two favorite sports, it has to be good! grin
