Considering that we buy them from the factory for "just OVER 8k", there must be a few details missing from your offer. Oh...your local dealer must be a non profit.
That scenario=This

If your deal is true I will cut a check right now for 5 '09 H16's delivered to my door for just under 8k. I'm going to call Scott over at the Boatlocker right now to see if we can hammer out the specifics. grin

rhody, your PM is disabled.

I got a quote five months ago for an ’09 with white sails, racing rudders for under 8K.

Consider Matt’s boat as well $7,500 in 2007 = 7,637.49 in 2009.
http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Maybe things have actually changed that quickly but I’d be sure to shop around. That’s always good advice.

At any rate I think you’ll find that $9,599 exceeds your price point.

Back to Wave issues ....

Rick,

The Wave Class rules seem straight forward but ....

Who is the "Official" Wave Class Measurer as I noticed that you can use a sail other then a "Hobie factory sail" or is it up to the Race Commitee of any particular event to actually measure the sail in before each event. (the Tornadoes had their sails measured and signed/dated by a class measurer ... then that sail was "good" for any following event. I believe that is how it was handled)

Will Div11 need to appoint a Official Wave Class Measurer??? How do you feel it should work??? Have Chris Wessels and you worked out a system for this?

Thanks
Harry

Anytime I can find a good sailor who wants to get involved in the 16 class I’m ready to sell him a great used boat and get myself a new one.
But let’s not digress, this is a Wave thread.

I believe Dan Kulkoski is the official Measurer and is usually assisted by Kathy and Chip Short.
Sails are measured once and registered as measured and the sail is signed.
I really don't think anyone will show up at the regatta with an unmeasured sail.

The idea of after-market sails was designed to make racing more one-design. The cookie-cutter idea of one factory sail size and shape would not be good for folks on either end of the weight and ability spectrum.

Heavy Sailor = full sail
Light Sailor = flat sail
Excellent helmsman = flat sail
Helmsman not always on top of it = full sail

and the list goes on.

It has seemingly worked. We now have two women that won the Open Nationals -- Kathy Kulkoski was the first and Leah White, this past year -- my Daughter-in-Law.

We have also had small guys win (Paul Garlick) and big guys win (Rick White)

Thanks Rick,

How convenient for us in Div11 that the Kulkoski's are the Wave Class Measurers'. Personally the ability to have a sail cut for the crew's wieght is nice, I gave up on racing a H16 and moved up to the TheMightyHobie18 and P19 because I was 220lbs at one point and my crews were in the 150-175lb range .... Wally, Jimmie Glanden, Rob Sterling ... etc just didn't make enough mistakes for me (when sailing mistake free ... like that ever happened!!!) to be competitive.

I'll pass the information onto "Rondo"Laporta/Div11 Chairperson .... but what are the other Hobie Divisions going to do???

I'm John from The Boat Locker and I can say for sure that we don't sell boats for under MSRP. I do have a couple used boats here, maybe that was the source of the confusion? I do have an '08 that is virtually new for $9k on a trailer...

Hi Rick White and Chris Wessels,

FYI: On Saturday RHYC held a US Sailing Basic Race Management Course attended by maybe twenty people .... during a "break" a Mr Jim Albert from the Havre D'Grace YC approached me and asked "I have a Hobie Wave, do you think I'll be able to attend and compete in the RHYC Points Regetta???" I stated that I believe so, and that we were working out the details currently ... I took his contact information and passed it on to the Div11 Commodore. Div11 is trying to coordinate attendence between the Waves in North Jersey and Maryland to maximize attendence at a couple of events. (Jim has been following the discussions here on CatSailor!!!)

To any "Wave" sailor that wishes to attend a Div11 Point Regatta please contact a Div11 Hobie Sailor and ask them to please put you in touch w/ Ron LaPorta: Commodore of Div11 so Wave attendence can be coordinated to ensure maximum enjoyment and fun, in this first year of this program.

Today I'm working on the NOR for the RHYC Hobie Points Regetta ... and have a question ... What courses do the Waves sail/race??? Are/will the courses be the same as the HCA-NA windward/leeward coures??? Or do the Waves prefer triangular courses w/ a reaching leg??? RHYC has the room and resourses availible to do both concurrently if required.

Rick could you E-Mail me at my address listed in my profile ... Chris you already have that address. (Just trying to work out the details before publishing the NOR)

Thanks
Harry Murphey

Don't want to sound dumb, but I don't know where Div 11 is. and I don't know what RHYC (except back in the Shark days we hade the NAs at the Royal Hamilton YC in Hamilton, Ont.

Back to other stuff. The Wave Class HATES W/L course. The official class course is a triangle (we normally use the port end of the start line as the leeward mark for simplicity), windward, and leeward finish. The reaching mark is to be 125% of the distance for the weather leg. This allows for two up wind legs, two hot reaches (we usually do not make it unilateral, rather make one leg hotter than the other)and one downwind leg.

Our experimental course, soon to be adopted, has the RC located about 1/3 up the weather leg, with a Leeward mark downwind of the RC. Same course but makes the downwind leg shorter.

Nothing more boring than sailing a Wave downwind. I am sure they will be happy with anything as long as it is not just W/Ls
Thanks,

Thanks Rick,

Don't you remember sailing w/ Amy Patterson at Trump's/Atlantic City (NJ) in the early 90's on a TheMightyHobie18??? (every male there was awefully jealousy of you !!!) Or doing the "Down the Bay" w/ Ron from Va Beach and de-masting on the third day ..... both are in Div11 geographically ... RHYC is Rock Hall Yacht Club located on the "Eastern Shore" in Rock Hall Md. It's just accross the Chasapeake Bay from Baltimore.

(I would have thought you would have remembered "Amy" ... all us guys still do 15-20 years later)

I'll send Chris and you an E-Mail shortly ...

Harry
