IIRC, the first few Vipers were about thirty pounds over minimum weight, but it was thought that much of that weight could be reduced.

Karl, if you can get down to Florida in time, June 6-7 there will be a very good regatta over in Cocoa Beach area, called the Kelly Park river regatta. There will be several Blades, Falcon, Vipers all there for your inspection and maybe you can get a crew spot on one as well.

I realize Cocoa Beach is on the east coast and Tampa is on the west, but the drive across is only about 2 hours.
